Our tour will start with the “Jardin de l’Etat”: a beautiful botanical garden located in the heart of Saint Denis. Formerly a garden of acclimatization, there are now many species in a calm and relaxing area.
Inside the garden, the Natural History Museum is very pleasant to visit: beautiful collections presented in a building classified as a historical monument (entrance ticket €2).
Then head to “Paris street” adorned with historic villas dating from the colonial era: some houses can be visited. A little further down, the war memorial proudly faces the old town hall.
We now arrive at the seaside, we will find one of the most emblematic places of Reunion: the “Barachois” and its war cannons, vestiges of the battle against the English in 1810.
A little further on, take a moment to contemplate the statue of Roland Garros, a famous war hero borned in Reunion Island.
Let’s end our visit with the prefecture of Saint Denis, the oldest building classified as a historic monument in Reunion Island.
